With films inspired by real people, as a rule, combining them with true crime is almost obvious to become an investment for streaming or cinema. I’m talking about the case that left us curious and shocked in recent years of the pandemic, involving the Murdaugh family, in the United States.

The dynasty of American lawyers that practically determines the life of a small town in the interior of South Carolina starred in unspeakable crimes, with drugs, alcohol, bribes, and murders being part of the list. Also in 2023, Alex Murdaugh was found guilty of the murder of his wife and son, being sentenced to life in prison without parole. The case shocked the country (and the world) and will now be retold in a Hulu series.

Based on Mandy Matney‘s reporting, the series will show how Alex Murdaugh seemed to have a perfect life until his wife Maggie and son Paul were brutally murdered. The Murdaughs live in Hampton County, South Carolina, where four generations of their family built an extensive legal dynast,y and years before the murder, a deadly accident marks the fall of the Murdaughs’ all-powerful facade.

In addition to covering the entire case, the journalist created the Murdaugh Murders Podcast, which aired in 2021 and is the basis for the series. The material was also used for the book, Blood on Their Hands: Murder, Corruption, and the Fall of the Murdaugh Dynasty.

So far, only two names have been confirmed: Australian Jason Clarke as Alex, and Patricia Arquette, as his wife, Maggie. We will keep an eye on it until filming begins in 2025. It has all the potential to be another incredible series. The story is!
