Who Sees The House… is the Brazilian title for No Good Deed… and the expressions are not the same. The Brazilian version plays with the issue of appearances and the original version is about the idea that good deeds often lead to negative or unexpected consequences, suggesting a certain irony in altruism. Both situations are present in the excellent series, which arrived somewhat quietly on Netflix with a super cast.

The new series by showrunner Liz Feldman, who had already given us the excellent Dead to Me, was born from a trivial situation in the screenwriter’s life. During the pandemic, she was looking for a new house and when visiting a potential one, Liz found herself imagining what the story of the house would be, of the people who were visiting the address, and of course, with a perverse twist, she immediately imagined a crime.
No Good Deed follows three families competing to buy the same house before realizing that instead of their dreams, it could actually be a nightmare. There are eight half-hour episodes at a frenetic pace and full of twists and turns. The couple who need to sell the property are Lydia (Lisa Kudrow) and Paul (Ray Romano), who are apparently going through what they call an “empty nest” since their children are no longer with them. The truth is obviously different.
I won’t go into detail about all the subplots or reveal the main secret because it’s so well-woven that it’s worth knowing little or nothing. The great cast of comedians is another surprise: they’re not here to make us laugh, on the contrary, they move us with great performances.

Liz Feldman had great successes before No Good Deed: 2Broke Girls and Dead to Me, and in the latter, she established a partnership with actress Linda Cardellini, who also inspired this new production. According to Liz, the character Margo came from a recording of Dead to Me, where she saw the actress wearing cherry-red sandals and decided to have both of them in some new work. Linda agreed without knowing what was coming her way, she only asked that Margo be the opposite of Judy, her character in Dead to Me that earned her an Emmy nomination.
The story is extremely well-structured, all the characters are interesting and everyone is incredible, but I wanted to go on a little longer to praise the composer Siddhartha Khosla and another soundtrack as brilliant and beautiful as Only Murders In the Building. Every song by No Good Deed accurately guides us through the character’s emotions, from the saddest to the funniest, but it is so perfect that it is completely part of the narrative. My favorite composer of the year!
I recommend that you do the marathon and cross over to sunny California, which Liz Feldman once again portrays with such talent. Excellent series! I hope it doesn’t get lost and comes back in new seasons (like the last one of Dead to Me), but so far? Guaranteed fun.
