Believe it! Yes, after speculation and even leaks that a new season of Ted Lasso was in development, it is now official: Our favorite coach returns in 2026. As always, the announcement was made in a very “lassian way” with a perfect post:
“Finally found the dang password to this thing. Sorry y’all. What’d I miss?”, “Ted” wrote on X. Yes, he is back and we can believe it again.
The phenomenon and mega-award-winning series of the Pandemic ended its narrative in the 3rd season, with Ted (Jason Sudeikis) taking AFC Richmond to the Premier League but choosing the mental health of his son and leaving behind a successful career in the United Kingdom to return to Kansas and coach children at school. This profound decision was to break a cycle of family suffering. It was poetic and beautiful, in line with the positive and structured message of the series, which is not about football (soccer) but about trauma and new beginnings. You know, I am a faithful convert to the Ted Lasso religion.

Sudeikis cleverly left the door open for a return, whether in the US or even back in England. I bet big that he would be the coach of the US team in the 2026 World Cup, which is taking place in America, but no, he will accept the challenge of being the coach of the women’s league in London, alongside Rebecca (Hannah Waddingham) and Keeley (Juno Temple). I mean, I don’t know if Keeley will come back, but it’s hard to imagine that she won’t.
The first episode will have Ted still in Kansas, but then he returns to England and reunites with everyone he left behind, including his right-hand man, Coach Beard (Brendan Hunt). It’s easier to confirm who Ted won’t be reunited with, which is Jamie Tartt (Phil Dunster), who is officially out. Otherwise, we can count on our favorite characters from the tough years of the pandemic.

Filming is scheduled to begin in July. “As we all continue to live in a world where so many factors have conditioned us to ‘look before we leap’,” said the actor in the official statement. “In season four, the AFC Richmond crew learns to JUMP BEFORE THEY LOOK, discovering that wherever they land is exactly where they’re supposed to be.”
I’m very happy with the news, even though I’m worried about how they’ll keep up with expectations now that Ted Lasso is a worldwide success. My bet that the World Cup will be part of the narrative may not be 100% wrong; we’ll see! When it was on the air, the series was nominated for 61 Emmy Awards, winning 13, including two consecutive wins in the category of best comedy series and actors. It’s time to believe and hope that time passes quickly. Bring on 2026!
