For Carrie Coon fans, 2025 promises to be a memorable year, with the actress delivering breathtaking performances in two extremely different roles. She is currently rocking The White Lotus, and in the second half of the year, she will return to the screen as the complex Bertha Russell in The Gilded Age, a character that is sure to divide opinions. In a period of transition between the 19th and 20th centuries, few actresses can navigate such contrasting universes with such ease as Coon.

Laurie: The Lawyer in Crisis
In The White Lotus, the focus is on Laurie, a successful corporate lawyer, but who is experiencing a true midlife crisis. Divorced and in an unusual financial situation, she finds herself forced to pay alimony to her ex-husband. The trip to the resort in Thailand with her old college friends ends up being a ticking time bomb, full of tension and confrontations with ghosts from the past, revealing secrets that perhaps would be better left forgotten. Episode 7 promises to be the boiling point, with the situation exploding intensely.
Despite having achieved success in her career, Laurie feels inferior to her friends. Not as rich and famous as Kate, nor as beautiful (or at least not feeling so) as Jaclyn, she ends up taking out her frustrations on alcohol. When Jaclyn persistently insinuates that Laurie should have an affair with Valentim, the resort employee, she reacts shyly. But on the night of the full moon, she decides to be “the fun one of the group”, flirting with Valentim. However, when she goes to sleep alone, she sees Jaclyn achieving what she wants. The feeling of betrayal is strong and, in the trailer for episode 7, the tension between the two intensifies, culminating in a direct confrontation.

Laurie’s Big Night: Danger Ahead
In episode 7, Laurie becomes the center of attention, but that doesn’t mean good news. The trailer suggests that the conflict with Jaclyn will continue, with a harsh phrase being said: “If you don’t like your life, change it.” For Laurie, who is in the midst of turmoil, this is a very unconstructive suggestion.
Later, we see Laurie deciding to go to Valentine’s friend Aleksei’s fight alone, demonstrating a determination that soon turns into fear. After being chased by a car through the city streets, she begins to fight for her survival, definitively becoming one of the resort’s potential victims. Laurie’s journey may, in fact, end tragically, as her encounters with Valentine’s friends suggest that she is in great danger.

New Mysteries and Threats
In addition to Laurie, other characters are also experiencing tense moments. Saxon, upon being informed that his father is losing control of his business, seems to be approaching the dark side. Greg/Gary’s party becomes a dangerous scenario for him, especially after learning that the millionaire killer has information about his night with Chloe on the yacht. If he survives, Saxon could very well become involved in Greg/Gary’s crimes.
And finally, Rick, after confronting his father’s killer, enters an elevator with Frank and two prostitutes. The question hangs in the air: could they be “Ladyboys”? The mystery only increases as the season progresses, but the day that one of them will die approaches. Who?

With so many conflicts and complex characters, The White Lotus continues to surprise. Tensions are at their highest and, with the plot approaching its climax, there is no way to predict who will emerge unscathed from this turbulent journey. The future of Laurie, Saxon, and other characters remains uncertain, but one thing is certain: the season promises to leave fans eager for more.
