Elle Woods: The Legally Blonde Prequel for Prime Video

After two films, a musical, and becoming a pop legend, we are ready to follow Elle Woods again with the prequel that is already being filmed for Prime Video: Elle.

Legally Blonde hit theaters in 2001 and was a huge success with both critics and at the box office, with Reese Witherspoon in the lead role. Elle Woods is a young, rich blonde who decides to enroll in Harvard Law School to win back her ex-boyfriend, but ends up discovering her true calling and ability. The production was a milestone in breaking stereotypes about women’s appearance and intelligence, showing how determination and talent can surpass expectations. The film was well-received by the public, especially among women, and was responsible for catapulting Witherspoon’s career, generating sequels, a TV series, and a musical, consolidating itself as a classic of pop culture.

It was only a matter of time before more spin-offs were created and a few years ago there was talk of a prequel to focus on Elle Woods’ youth and how she developed her unique personality and gained her confidence and determination, following her journey through high school.

Actress Lexi Minetree was chosen for the role and the first image of her as Elle already shows her with a transparent 90s-style landline, surrounded by pink and smiling positively. The cast includes June Diane Raphael (from Frankie & Grace) as Elle’s mother, Eva and Tom Everett Scott as her father, Wyatt and other young actors will be in the same universe. The series, approved by Witherspoon, has as showrunner Laura Kittrell, who worked on Insecure, and is MGM’s first major title on Prime Video.

I’m particularly excited about the participation of June Diane Raphael, who was my favorite Brianna, as Elle’s mother, Eva, a polite, pragmatic woman who thrives on keeping things perfect. In the films, the role was small and played by Tane McClure. The actress has a cameo role in The Morning Show with Reese, but here she will certainly have more room for her infallible humor.
