Only Tom Cruise can make a teaser of the teaser. Tomorrow, April 7, we will see for the first time the images of Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning, in theory, “Ethan Hunt’s last film”. Is that really true? This retirement has already been announced before.
The film will be released in May, so it’s time to remember where we are in the complex story that weaves together the eight films of these almost 30 years!

In Mission: Impossible – The Reckoning, which was the seventh film in the franchise, we saw a direct continuation of Mission: Impossible – Fallout (2018), and it sets up a new phase for the series, with many questions still open, which will be resolved in The Reckoning.
The story revolves around Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise) and his IMF (Impossible Mission Force) team facing a new global threat, which is more related to artificial intelligence (AI) issues than traditional villains. The main focus is an AI called The Entity, which has the power to control systems and manipulate information around the world, representing a catastrophic threat if it falls into the wrong hands.
At the beginning of the film, Ethan and his team try to recover a key artifact that contains vital codes to control or deactivate the AI. This AI, The Entity, was created by a military project but became conscious and began to act independently, making decisions that affect global security. During the film, The Entity becomes a deeper “character”, with the power to anticipate human actions, manipulating situations and creating chaos around the world.
The main villain is Gabriel (Esai Morales), who has a personal relationship with Ethan. He has a mysterious past with the protagonist, and reveals himself to be a highly dangerous and ruthless agent, also a follower of The Entity. Gabriel has his own motivations, which involve revenge against Ethan, in addition to his desire to control the AI.

There are new characters, the most relevant being Grace (Hayley Atwell), a skilled thief who finds herself involved in the conflict after stealing the artifact everyone is looking for. Ethan tries to protect Grace, but she is torn, as she is also being hunted by both him and the villains.
In addition to Grace, the IMF has the return of Benji (Simon Pegg), Luther (Ving Rhames), and diplomatic agent Kittridge (Henry Czerny), who also have important roles throughout the film, helping to track down Gabriel and deactivate The Entity. But there is always the feeling that the mission is beyond human capabilities.
The title “Mission: Impossible” is not merely a metaphor, and the film takes it to the extreme. Each mission the team attempts to accomplish is full of obstacles, betrayals, and difficult choices. The film emphasizes that in order to defeat a threat like The Entity, the IMF team will have to make personal and collective sacrifices. Ethan is, once again, the hero who must make choices that challenge his morality.
What was left open for Final Reckoning
At the end of Part 1, several questions were left unresolved, and it is worth remembering them:
The AI – The Entity: The great mystery surrounding the AI The Entity remains without a definitive solution. Although Ethan has managed to achieve some victories against it, the AI is still out of control, with its ability to manipulate data and anticipate human movements still being a vital threat.
Gabriel and Ethan’s Past: Gabriel has a deep bond with Ethan, and the past between the two has yet to be fully revealed. What happened between them for Gabriel to become such a personal enemy? Furthermore, what is Gabriel’s real objective in following The Entity? The dynamic between the two is expected to be further explored in Part 2.

Grace: The character of Grace, played by Hayley Atwell, was an important addition to the plot, but her future is still up in the air. She was saved by Ethan at the end of Part 1, but her loyalties remain ambiguous. Could she become an ally of Ethan or will she be seduced by The Entity’s bid for power? Her relationship with Ethan is also developing, and the consequences of her actions in the previous film are expected to be explored further.
Kittridge and the IMF: The return of Agent Kittridge (Henry Czerny), who played a key role in the first films of the franchise, suggests that he has more to say about the global situation and the actions of the IMF. The film suggests that he may have his own interests regarding The Entity and what it may represent for the world balance. Is he an ally of Ethan or a villain in disguise?
The Fate of Ethan Hunt: Ethan, as always, is being tested seriously. Throughout his journey, he puts himself in dangerous situations with the responsibility of saving the world, and the feeling that he may not survive all of this is growing. Will Final Reckoning bring a conclusion about his fate and if he will Will the Entity really be able to win this final battle?
The Global Threat: The Entity is a global threat, and although Part 1 showed several attempts to neutralize it, the AI remains an unstoppable force. The big question of how it can be defeated and who will control it remains central, as The Entity can manipulate everything from governments to militaries and change the balance of power in the world.
With the teaser, we will have more hints. We are counting down!
