As I mentioned before, 2025 is a special year for Jane Austen fans because of her 250th birthday in December. And maybe because of that, or because the gamble with the adaptation of Persuasion didn’t have the expected result, but Netflix announced that it is working on its version of Pride and Prejudice.
Did you tremble? I bet you did. But there are already good names confirmed for the cast. The 6-episode miniseries will have none other than Emma Corrin as Elizabeth Bennet and Jack Lowden as Mr. Darcy, also counting on Olivia Colman as Mrs. Bennet. Furthermore, there are some concerns because the announcement says that the “timeless romance” will be presented “to a new generation”. That doesn’t match.

And I’ll tell you why: the security and integrity of Austen’s heroines end up sounding like they’re self-assured, talkative, questioning, and they were exactly the opposite of what “the new generation” understands as a female role model. They did this ‘update’ with Dakota Johnson’s Anne Elliot, just imagine what they’ll do with Lizzie Bennet!
The script is written by Dolly Alderton and the series will be directed by Euros Lyn, who guarantees that they will remain faithful to the original text.
“It was a joy to dive back into its pages and find familiar and innovative ways to bring this beloved book to life,” Dolly told Tudum. “The book is a gift to adapt — full of drama and depth, as well as comedy and charm. It offers the opportunity to examine the complexities of love, family, friendship, and society while aspiring to Austen’s delightfully observant voice,” she commented.

Although the strongest rumors were that Daisy Edgar-Jones would play the lead role, the challenge was really up to the talented Emma Corrin, who was “discovered” by the platform in The Crown, with Princess Diana who earned awards and publicity, has also played Mrs. Chatterley in another literary adaptation and no one doubts that she will bring personality to the most beloved heroine in the Jane Austen universe. “Playing Elizabeth Bennet is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity,” she said. “Being able to bring this iconic character to life, alongside Olivia and Jack, with Dolly’s phenomenal scripts, is truly a great honor. I can’t wait for a new generation to fall in love with this story again.”
But for those anxious, there’s a warning to calm down: filming is still scheduled to begin in 2025, and we shouldn’t have the series ready until 2026.

For Emma and Jack, the challenge is immense. The roles of Lizzie Bennet and Mr. Darcy put them in the shadow of performances considered legendary. Will they be able to live up to expectations?
