Trailer and Theories for The Gilded Age Season 3

While we await the official trailer for Season 3 of The Gilded Age, the new poster already offers plenty of hints—or confirmations—of what to expect from the story. Actress Louisa Jacobson (Marian Brooks) has said that the upcoming season is full of “twists and surprises.” Not for us speculators, right? Let’s take a closer look at the images.

The first detail, already confirmed by the images from Episode 1, is that Marian Brooks will take a break from her signature yellows. Not only will she wear more luxurious gowns, but she’s also seen in red! Red for passion? All the “Larians” shout: YES!

In both versions of the poster, the audience’s favorite couple is exchanging a knowing look. In one version, Gladys (Taissa Farmiga) stands between Larry (Harry Richardson) and Marian. In another, she is off to the side, always looking sad and wary of her parents. At the center of the composition stands Bertha Russell (Carrie Coon), powerful, authoritative, and defiant, with a proud George Russell (Morgan Spector) by her side.

Ada Brooks Forte (Cynthia Nixon) looks approvingly at Larry and Marian in both posters, suggesting that Marian may confide in her aunt about a romance that seems likely to remain secret for a while. Agnes (Christine Baranski), meanwhile, maintains her usual disapproving expression, especially in the glow of Bertha and George’s growing influence. Her son Oscar (Blake Ritson) appears only in one version of the poster, in the background, watching Marian and Larry as well.

On Peggy Scott’s (Denée Benton) side of the story, one version of the poster shows her elegantly dressed for a ball, happy and smiling. However, her mother Dorothy (Audra McDonald) stares sternly at Agnes, not exactly with a friendly expression—curious, given that Agnes has always been warm and supportive toward Peggy. In the second version of the poster, Peggy is seen in the arms of Dr. William Kirkland (Jordan Donica), dancing with her and seemingly in love. Her other mother, played by Phylicia Rashad, watches them with a wary expression.

Perhaps most striking is the season’s tagline: “What is your family worth?”—a phrase that carries a double meaning, evoking both emotional value and monetary fortune. It ties directly into what the teaser warned us: In the New World, Love Can Conquer—or Cost—Everything.

So, dear readers: in The Gilded Age, no one gets to follow their heart without consequence. Marian doesn’t have a fortune to impress the Russells, Peggy is an independent working woman, which is likely to upset the Kirklands, and Gladys is wealthy, but her mother wants her to marry a titled Englishman to become a Duchess. With just three weeks to go, I’m already counting the days!
