Reunions and Conflicts in The Buccaneers

It doesn’t matter if they’re at a wedding in Italy or a garden party in England — no one is truly happy in The Buccaneers.

After last season’s chaos, Nan reconnects with Guy and Jinny in Italy, and the reunion — at least at first — is far from what she hoped. But before that, we meet a “new Theo”: bolder, often drunk, but finally free. To the sound of Jamiroquai, he rehearses his first steps into independence by going straight after Lizzie, who’s engaged to Hector, but clearly drawn to her best friend’s husband.

The flirtation between Theo and Lizzie intensifies — sharp banter, stolen kisses, and of course, the episode ends with them in bed, now full-blown lovers. Meanwhile, Conchita is still busy playing matchmaker, trying to find a husband for Mabel, which leads to tension and discomfort among the group. The issue? Conchita clearly hasn’t realized Mabel is in a relationship with Honoria and has fully embraced the mission of marrying her off.

Not far away, Theo’s mother, the dowager duchess, remains in quiet suspense. She knows that neither Theo nor Nan will be able to move forward — separately or otherwise — without her. In her past, she made the same sacrifice Nan faces now, leaving the man she loved — Hector’s father — to become the Duchess of Tintagel. And even now, when happiness seems possible again, she still chooses duty above all.

And then, off to Italy we go. Guy is stunned when Nan suddenly appears at the hideout he shares with Jinny, but before they can speak, the sisters reunite and catch up. Nan declares she’s there to stay, but something feels off. She quickly grows jealous of the intimacy and closeness between Jinny and Guy (though nothing happened between them). At the same time, Jinny feels envious of her sister’s life of luxury and endless balls. They make peace quickly — but things with Guy aren’t so easy.

Not knowing how to act, Guy is jealous of her time with Theo. But when they’re unexpectedly invited to a street wedding celebration, they finally talk things through and spend the night together.

The problem is that while they’ve been reconnecting, Jinny is visited by her ex-husband — and she panics. James is “civil,” only questioning how their son will feel one day, not knowing who his father truly was. Tired of hiding, tired of running, she ultimately agrees to see him again.

The next morning, unaware that James has already found Jinny, Nan suddenly changes her mind. She now believes that if she doesn’t return and help change the laws for women, she’ll be letting Jinny down. Guy, of course, flips out, and they fight again. He’s ready to move on with his life and doesn’t want to wait around anymore.

So, Nan is headed back just in time to ruin the fragile happiness of Theo and Lizzie — and indirectly lead James right back to Jinny. But how did he find her? Did he follow her? Did Theo tip him off? One thing’s for sure: we haven’t heard the last of it.
