Lies and Longing in And Just Like That

It would be possible to sum up this week’s episode of And Just Like That in one short sentence: nothing happened. And yet, I still lost 30 minutes of my time.

Aidan asks how he became the villain, and the answer is simple: by just being himself. He shows up at Carrie’s place out of nowhere, seemingly planning to stay, and immediately starts interfering with her plans — including disrupting her writing process on the new book. As usual, he does it through manipulation: he hides the crisis with Wyatt (who now wants to live with his mother) until the exact moment Carrie is about to meet with Duncan. Of course, she cancels the work meeting, but Aidan isn’t satisfied yet. Jealous, he interrogates her about the neighbor, annoyed that she doesn’t know much or says she’s not interested. A liar knows another liar, and he’s clearly determined to mark his territory.

Lisa is basically cheating on her husband: dreaming about Marion, flirting, and talking about him to Charlotte — though she still resists acting on her desire. As for Charlotte, stressed out from taking care of Harry as he recovers, she’s having vertigo again and acting a little off.

Speaking of lies — the episode’s theme — Miranda hides from Joy the fact that she’s an alcoholic. She flirts dangerously with the idea that she could handle just one drink, but in the end, she manages to throw away the bottle of gin Joy left at her place without taking a sip. That conversation is now unavoidable.

Seema and Adam are still doing fine, despite his refusal to wear deodorant and the fact that his last name is “Karma.”

And just like that, the episode came to an end. Was it worth it? Of course not.
