Down Cemetery Road: Slow Dying — The Episode 5 Recap Where the Past Comes Back All at Once

The images of British soldiers being used as test subjects for chemical weapons are painful to watch, even if Downey’s memories are brief. He wakes up to Sarah excitedly trying to practice her aim, but he reminds her they shouldn’t waste ammunition or draw attention. She, however, is the opposite of what he needs: wired, seeking direction, wanting a plan. Dinah is still at the center of his thoughts.

Their plan is to use Rufus’s phone, hoping it will be answered by whoever knows where Dinah is. Amos Crane, always impassive, eventually picks up.

Zoe, the stolen computer, and the files that reveal everything

Far away, Zoe is scrubbing off the word “stop” that was painted on her window. The cleaning extends throughout the entire house until Wayne (from the morgue) arrives — she had called him to help unlock the computer she had stolen from the medical office. Together, they access files with images and information about the soldiers used in the experiments.

Malik is losing control, the kidnappers are pushing, and guilt is taking over

Malik is anxious: the freelancers hired to kill Amos haven’t checked in, and he fears the worst. Naturally, Amos has their phone and replies to him, pretending the job was done. Meanwhile, the team holding Dinah keeps demanding updates — still unaware they will eventually be ordered to kill the child. Malik, always evasive, delays giving them crucial information. As a father, he feels pity for the girl.

The unlikely agreement between C and Amos — and the danger of united villains

In London, C is pressured by his new boss to ensure no scandal surfaces, and he lies, claiming everything is under control. Having been told by Malik that Amos was dead, he is stunned when the assassin himself appears and threatens him. The two reach an agreement because they want the same thing (though for different reasons): Downey dead and the scandal buried. For Amos, it’s simply about avenging his brother. When villains unite, nothing good can follow.

The trip to Scotland and the fragile bond between Sarah and Downey

With his demands secured, Amos contacts Downey and reveals where Dinah is: the same facility where the soldiers were “treated,” located in Scotland. Worried about being identified by the car they have been using, Sarah and Downey ditch it and plan another way to reach her. As they travel, Sarah tells him about the time she jumped off a roof and almost died. Their friendship may be brief, but it feels genuine.

Zoe confronts Dr. Wright and learns the truth about the antidote

Zoe returns to Dr. Wright’s office and gets him to confess the entire truth, since his name will be tied to the operation regardless. He has been working on the antidote to the chemical weapon — Histriona — but the treatment is still far from reliable. Zoe leaves him alive, armed with the information that the experiments were conducted in Scotland.

When she goes to speak to her mother-in-law, she finds Malik in her home, discussing Joe with his mother and pretending to be someone from the coroner’s office. She sees through it immediately, pretends to believe him, and then forces him out.

Downey faces his past and the responsibility of saving Dinah

Sarah helps Downey reconnect with his sister, who believed he was dead. She’s shocked, naturally, but understands he has a mission: find Dinah. She asks him to help care for the girl afterward. Sarah and Downey continue their journey. He explains in detail how they were used as test subjects in Afghanistan, how they recovered, how the others were killed, and how he regrets that Dinah’s father returned home — because now she is orphaned and in danger.

The murder of Dr. Wright and the growing threat surrounding Zoe

In London, Zoe follows Dr. Wright and ends up witnessing his murder, committed by Amos. She immediately begins to follow him (the worst decision for someone intelligent who doesn’t grasp the danger). She believes she hasn’t been seen, but we know Amos misses nothing. He is fully aware Zoe is trailing him. And that puts her life in serious danger.
