Fiona prays for her family’s safety, but her quiet moment is disrupted by an argument between Walter and Elias. They believe everyone should know that Constance was negotiating with the priest — now dead — as well as with the bandits who attacked Elias. Fiona insists it’s not the right time. Elias pushes back, accusing her of putting everyone at risk by keeping the truth buried.
Roache apologizes to Constance for failing to find Willem. Her response is cold and decisive: from now on, their business will become more violent.
Elias and Trisha share their frustrations about their mothers and about how “protection” has turned into suffocation. What was meant to shield them has become a cage.

Lilla struggles with her conscience. She knows she is betraying her people, but she cannot bring herself to consider leaving her family. Loyalty demands a double sacrifice.
Albert meets Lucinda, Constance’s enslaved woman. She clearly dislikes seeing them talk. She approaches Albert under the pretense of wanting to know more about his origins — though she already knows plenty. What she truly wants is for him to teach at the town’s school, now left without anyone. When Fiona learns of this, she becomes furious and confronts Constance.
During the confrontation, Fiona exposes herself: she admits she knew Constance had been paying the priest to extract the Abandoned’s secrets. She also makes it clear she knows Willem is dead — but argues that Albert is essential to the town. The problem is that, because he is Black, local racists want to beat him. Albert is attacked, but Fiona intervenes and saves him. Later, she apologizes for having been unfair to him and says she is proud of him for becoming the town’s teacher.
Trisha and Garret talk about Willem — and about their father — sharing a moment of quiet grief.


Lucinda goes to the school looking for Albert. They speak without realizing they are being watched.
Fiona asks Elias if he loves Trisha. He answers that he doesn’t know — he only knows he thinks about her constantly. Later, the two walk together, and Trisha again confesses how much of an outsider she feels within her own family. This time, they kiss.
Federal agents arrive in town, bringing a body. Everything suggests Fiona’s plan has worked. The corpse is badly mutilated, and they ask whether it is Willem. Constance looks at Fiona with hatred and tears in her eyes.
But she doesn’t answer.
