The Abandons, (Episode 7 Recap -Finale): When Everything Burns

Under the cover of darkness, Fiona leads the vigil — and quickly realizes they are outnumbered. From the opening moments, the imbalance of force is clear: this will not be a fair fight.

Trisha confronts Constance about what she and Garrett are doing. Horrified, she flees the Van Ness land. Roache sees her leaving. Constance orders her lover to bring her daughter back — by force, alive or… The threat is unmistakable.

Fiona attempts to warn the sheriff about what is unfolding, but he proves cowardly and unwilling to act, choosing fear over justice.

Meanwhile, Garrett meets Samara to negotiate her father’s surrender — if he refuses to sell the valley lands. In town, Trisha runs into Garrett, confirming what Constance feared: her daughter was indeed going to tell the sheriff everything. Shaken, Trisha tells her brother she saw it all, disturbed by how much he is beginning to act like their mother.

Roache and Garrett force Trisha into a carriage and drag her toward the gallows. Elias tries to intervene, but Dahlia attacks Garrett, stabbing him. If there is anyone who knows how to make a Van Ness bleed, it is Dahlia.

Fiona retreats into the church, questioning what God actually wants from her. Dahlia’s answer is blunt and furious: to hell with deals, faith, or honor — let’s burn everything to the ground.

At the same time, Samara confronts her father with everything she has learned about his past. He confirms it all and explains the context. Samara believes in the Van Ness proposal and tries to convince him, but Miles makes it clear that the past cannot simply disappear.

Still, Samara goes to Garrett and reveals the location of Willem’s body.

Trisha is now drugged and tied up inside the house, on Constance’s orders. The plan is to declare her insane and commit her to an asylum. But Trisha is clever — and she manages to escape, even as Constance tries to stop her one last time.

Before letting her go, Constance delivers the final blow: she shows Trisha Willem’s body. Elias did lie — even if he did not kill her brother, he knew the truth. Only after the revelation does Constance hand over the key and allow Trisha to leave.

When Trisha confronts Elias, he does not retreat. Willem was a monster, he says — a man who raped his sister. Elias does not mourn his death.

Meanwhile, Roache and his men capture Dahlia and Lilla, isolating them. Yes — this is Constance’s revenge. Roache slashes Dahlia’s face. Dahlia laughs.

Unarmed and alone, Fiona goes to the Van Ness land to rescue Dahlia. Constance tells her there is not much left of her friend. Fiona confesses the truth: she was the one who killed Willem. In response, Constance tortures Dahlia in front of her.

Distracted, the guards fail to see the Abandons surrounding the estate. They move in methodically, setting everything on fire.

Still not satisfied, Fiona goes back inside the burning house to make sure Constance is truly dead. Amid the flames, the two women confront each other, violence erupting at last without intermediaries.

Outside, everyone watches the house burn. A female figure nearly emerges from the flames. It looks like Fiona.

Did she make it out?

The season ends there.

And frankly, it should stay there.

There is only a thin thread of story, too few characters, and nearly all of them deeply unlikable. For such relentless chaos, the narrative never fully earns its brutality. Enough. This barely worked for a handful of episodes, but the destruction, emotional and narrative, ultimately feels unjustified.
