Down Cemetery Road Renewed for Season 2 at Apple TV+

Apple TV+ has officially renewed Down Cemetery Road for a second season, announced shortly after the Season 1 finale aired — a clear sign of confidence in a series that steadily gained critical attention, audience engagement, and narrative ambition over its first run.

Starring Emma Thompson and Ruth Wilson, the British thriller follows private investigator Zoë Boehm and the troubled Sarah Trafford, an unlikely partnership forged through crimes that are never just crimes. In Season 2, the pair reunite to investigate the suspicious death of a woman who falls in front of a train. What initially appears to be a straightforward case quickly spirals into something far more dangerous, as Zoë and Sarah are drawn into the glamorous yet ruthless world of black-market antiquities — and into the path of a serial killer willing to do anything to conceal his crimes.

Emma Thompson continues not only as the series’ lead but also as an executive producer, alongside writer-creator Morwenna Banks, novelist Mick Herron — whose work inspired the series — and the team at 60Forty Films. Börkur Sigþórssen steps in as lead director for the new season, reinforcing the darker, more unsettling visual language that defined the latter episodes of Season 1.

In a statement, Thompson celebrated the renewal with characteristic warmth and wit, highlighting her excitement at reuniting with Ruth Wilson and with Banks at the helm of the creative team. Describing Zoë Boehm as a “punkishly delicious avatar,” the actress said she can’t wait to pull on the character’s knock-off Doc Martens again — a small detail that neatly captures the spirit of the show.

Jay Hunt, Apple TV+’s creative director for Europe, summed up the response succinctly: audiences around the world fell for the acerbic intelligence and unconventional dynamic between Zoë and Sarah. With its second season, Down Cemetery Road returns not just as a renewed thriller but as a series increasingly confident in its ability to blend mystery with character, irony, and moral unease.

Season 2 promises higher stakes, a broader world — and the certainty that nothing in Zoë Boehm’s universe is ever simple, safe, or without consequence.
