Robin Hood – Season 1 Finale, Episode 10: One Enemy Falls, Another Rises

Season finale. Standing amid the ashes of his village, Robin dreams of the legend of the Viking Erik, who fought until the very end. When he wakes from the nightmare, Marian is by his side.

Robin questions Tuck’s prayers, but the friar argues that those who fall depart — and pray to return. The conversation soon turns to what really matters: motivation. Tuck believes in a pacifist struggle; Robin’s gaze suggests otherwise. He knows 500 men are coming to attack Sherwood, and his plan is bold: deceive them. While the army advances through the forest, the rebels seize Nottingham — and then disappear. Simple. Almost perfect.

Guy of Gisbourne plans a direct assault on the forest, but the Sheriff of Nottingham points out that Robin is expecting exactly that. “The answer to rebellion is extinction,” Guy concludes, shutting down the debate.

The Sheriff, however, has other troubles. Priscilla has returned home pregnant. She is ruined and, according to him, must be sent to a convent. There is no room for discussion. Something has changed, though: the once-defiant daughter is convinced that if she stays, she will die.

Marian offers to spy for Robin and discover when Guy intends to attack. She also argues that, if this might be their last night alive, they should make the most of it. And they do (sorry, Ralph).

The next day — rather abruptly — Marian returns home and pretends, before Huntingdon, to feel responsible and guilty for everything. Odious (and foolish) as ever, he believes her.

Eleanor bids farewell to Pembroke, who leaves for what is essentially a suicide mission in Rome. Confident in her alliance with the Sheriff to eliminate Guy, everything seems to be going exactly as she planned.

Priscilla, meanwhile, swims hard only to die at the shore. Back under the Bishop’s authority, she confesses and heads to the convent. But the old Priscilla is still there: she blackmails the clergyman into helping her escape. Her plan is to flee to Rome. At the crucial moment, however, the Bishop betrays her — and she remains trapped.

The dutiful daughter routine works well for Marian. She flatters her father just long enough to extract the battle plans. She gets everything she needs. Marian manages to pass on the vital information, but is caught by Huntingdon and imprisoned by her own father. When questioned about changing strategy now that Robin knows everything, he refuses — he will not be humiliated because of his daughter. Robin wants to rescue Marian, but there is no time.

The Sheriff laments having tried to preserve peace on the eve of a massacre. He enters the fight with a hidden agenda: when it seems he is about to kill Robin, he turns on Guy instead, eliminating the Queen’s enemy as agreed.

In Sherwood, preparations are complete. Priscilla pretends to accept her fate at the convent. The battle begins. The rebels take Nottingham; the soldiers find the cave empty. Ralph is furious with Robin and wants no explanation involving Marian.

Losses are felt on both sides, but Robin’s plan succeeds. Now it’s time to save Marian (after all, Huntingdon has fled). The Sheriff, however, delays Robin. Face to face, the two men confront each other. Philip offers clemency to the archer’s father, but he chooses pride. Robin, thinking only of Marian, pulls back. “Not today,” he warns his enemy. “Soon.”

Marian begs her brother, Aleppo, to free her. If she stays, Huntingdon will kill her. When her father arrives to execute her, she has already escaped. Robin appears close behind, and the two fight. For a while, Huntingdon holds the advantage — until the couple turns the tables. Marian delivers the final blow to her father. Patricide was common at the time; no one would notice.

Looking upon a devastated Nottingham, the Sheriff and the Bishop mourn. The rebels will now be emboldened, which means King Henry himself will come to deal with the situation. And yes, that also means Eleanor’s plan is working.

In the forest, Robin assumes leadership of the Saxons. They will hide for now, regroup, and strike again. For the moment, Ralph heads to London until Robin calls her back. “It won’t take long,” she says.

Tuck is proud of Robin. So is Little John.

At the convent, Priscilla continues her schemes. She sends a letter to the Queen: “The next chapter of this story begins with her.”

Marian returns to Westminster, and Eleanor considers breaking her promise of clemency to Robin to free her. Cunning as ever, she reminds them that King Henry will pursue him — meaning the deal must be “renegotiated.” She offers help to both of them. But tonight, they will enjoy their freedom.

I’m not sure I’ll be back for a second season.
