It’s All Her Fault – Episode 3 Recap : when guilt hardens into certainty

Day 3

Peter arrives home with his siblings in a panic: the police are looking for Ana, who has “disappeared.” In reality, she was on her way to the Irvines’ house. When she finally arrives, she admits that she knew Carrie — but insists she has no idea where Milo is. She explains that Carrie took an unusual interest in the Irvine family, asked too many questions, and hovered around the boy with almost invasive attention. Soon after, the police arrive and take Ana in for questioning.

It becomes clear that Ana knew more than she initially let on — not out of malice, but out of naïveté. A trust born of exhaustion, of overworked women who recognize themselves in one another. Ana reveals that she once saw Carrie arguing with a man, though she barely managed to see his face. Alcaras suspects that Ana might recognize him if she saw him again — perhaps that is why he ran off so quickly.

On the third day of Milo’s disappearance, Marissa and Peter still haven’t received any ransom demand. Alcaras and Greco ask what the couple remembers about the Chicago Marathon. Marissa reacts oddly. She shuts down. Later, she cries alone. Milo had already complained about that day — she left him with Ana so she could work. That was when the kidnappers had greater access to him. The episode finds its emotional core here: Marissa becomes convinced that everything is her fault.

Colin devises a strategy to help Marissa gather information and manage the fallout. We learn that she had helped him financially in the past and that he carries an undefined sense of guilt. Soon, the truth emerges: Colin has been siphoning money from their business. Just like that, he climbs to the top of the suspect list.

Once again, Jenny and Richie argue. Social media continues to condemn Jenny for having hired Carrie. She asks her husband to cancel a commitment when her meeting runs long. Strangely, Richie agrees without complaint. Something feels off.

Peter receives contact from the kidnapper. The instructions are explicit: tell no one. Not even Marissa. He lies, claiming he won’t take part in the flyer distribution because he feels emotionally fragile. In reality, he is going to pay the ransom.

Esther, the woman who answered the door when Marissa went to pick up Milo in the first episode, appears to help with the search. She speaks to Jenny as if she already knows her, which unsettles Marissa. Jenny assumes Esther recognized her from social media, but Esther hesitates — a pause that betrays something else. There is clearly more there.

And where else is there more? Between Lia and Colin. Their connection becomes increasingly evident — and he takes money from her.

Peter manages to raise the ransom money, yet still says nothing to Marissa. She is disturbed by the total silence: no sightings, no further contact. “It’s as if they don’t want to give him back,” she says. Peter responds in tears — but there is something misaligned in his emotion.

Alcaras finally uncovers an image of the man who was with Carrie at the marathon. It is the same man who appears in a photograph inside Esther’s house, as we see when she returns home after having “helped” Marissa.

The pieces finally begin to connect.
