In the middle of the night, we see the man from the photo the police are searching for stop at a roadside convenience store to buy food. He freezes when he sees news of the kidnapping on the TV. He gets back into the car with a child — another kidnapped one? The conversation strongly suggests it. She asks to sleep in a “real bed,” not the “vacation bed,” and wonders why Carrie isn’t with them. The man answers, “Carrie has to hide because she’s famous,” then pulls a gun from his pocket.
Day 4
Alcaras and his wife talk about their son’s health issues and how, with more support, the boy might have a better future — and how lucky they are to have a child who will never grow up to be a rich jerk. Later, discussing the case, Alcaras says he doesn’t want to release the suspect’s photo yet, because that would alert him that he’s being hunted. “Even good people do the wrong thing under pressure,” he says.

He calls Jenny and asks her to show Jacob the photo to see if he recognizes the man, but ends up distracted by his own son. Jacob says he’s never seen the man in the picture. Marissa, depressed at home, calls the detective looking for updates. She hesitates about releasing the photo because she knows Carrie takes good care of Milo — but she doesn’t know whether the man might hurt her son. In the end, she agrees.
While dropping Sam off at school, Alcaras remembers that he could have placed his son in a better school if he had agreed to help a powerful councilman get his teenage son out of prison. He refused at the time. The photo is released.
Esther goes to the police to identify the man in the picture: Kyle Smith, a young man she adopted years earlier. Alcaras is suspicious — after all, it was her address that Carrie gave to Marissa. Esther talks about Kyle’s troubled childhood and insists that, despite his drug use, he wouldn’t be a kidnapper. She doesn’t recognize Carrie, either by photo or by name. Still, something doesn’t add up. Alcaras isn’t convinced.
With a name, the investigation finally gains momentum. Within minutes, they discover that Carrie visited Kyle while he was in prison. Everything seems almost explained. The motive appears to be financial. Or is it?

Interviewing other inmates who knew Kyle, the detectives learn very little about his relationship with Carrie — not even at his former workplace. One woman denies recognizing Carrie, but when she’s alone, mutters to herself: “Why did you make up that name, Josie?” Now we know the nanny’s real name.
Alcaras shares everything with Marissa — including details about his son, Sam. He also asks whether Peter might be hiding the fact that he’s handling ransom payments. Marissa insists he isn’t and says Peter has always been like that — someone who likes taking care of people. The detective also tells her about Esther’s connection to the case, noting that she was the only person who ever truly cared for Kyle, and that if someone directed Carrie to that address, it was likely for a reason tied to that history. It’s a convoluted explanation.
Alcaras begins to reconsider his son’s future — the reality of Sam’s dependence on him and his wife. He changes his mind and accepts the bribe to secure a better school placement for Sam.
On Day 5, the clerk at the gas station where Kyle stopped to buy food recognizes him. That leads the police to the house where Carrie had been staying. It’s now abandoned. There are bloodstains in the kitchen. The search expands to the lake in front of the house.
A body is found.
Whose body is it?
