Hijack – Season 2, Episode 4 Recap: A Revealing Switch

I love being right, and almost everything I had guessed or suspected so far is now confirmed. The episode picks up immediately after Sam appears to be a kidnapper and a murderer, even though we, the audience, know he is innocent.

The strategy John Bailey Brown is using — blackmailing ordinary people and throwing them into terrifying situations involving kidnapping and murder — comes straight from the previous season. It is not new, but it remains effective. Precisely because of that, it is working once again.

Still in shock after losing a passenger, the German police begin to comply with almost everything Sam Nelson demands. I note here that Clara is not simply unlucky. She is connected to all of this.

Sam publicly presents himself to the passengers as the hijacker and demands absolute obedience. Otto, the conductor, is clearly desperate. Mei, on the other hand, suspects that Sam is lying. I admit I was cruel and wrong about her — Mei is not involved.

Peter Faber panics when he learns that Bailey Brown is behind the operation. For that reason, he insists that Sam Nelson’s demands should not be met. He is ignored.

On the train, Sam tries to access the flash drive containing the images that prove his innocence. Otto helps him. The real killer is among the passengers, without anyone suspecting it. Jess, the doctor on board, tries to help — but I still find her extremely suspicious.

Sam orders everyone to throw their phones away. Mei makes it clear that she believes in his innocence. He identifies a father with a baby who urgently needs help because the child has asthma. Sam agrees to help, but only because freeing the child creates an opportunity to send the flash drive out of the train and finally have it read.

In England, we discover that the mysterious man watching Masha is actually on the good side: he is a friend of Daniel, her boyfriend, and only wants to help. The neighbors, however, are another story.

Mei ignores Sam’s advice — and also the warning from the elderly passenger Petra, who clearly knows more than she lets on — and follows the suspected killer until she finds the backpack he hid. The problem is that this proves nothing.

Throughout the episode, Sam repeatedly tries to get the flash drive into safer hands. Faber attempts, once again in vain, to prevent Bailey Brown’s release. Among the passengers, I continue to suspect Jess, the doctor.

Sam manages to mislead everyone and successfully passes on the flash drive. Now he depends purely on luck for someone to find it. Officer Zoran continues his investigation and discovers a coded message Sam left at the station before boarding the train.

Daniel asks his friend to rescue Masha, but the neighbors stop him. I said it — they are villains. They kill the former police officer.

Faber tries to stop Bailey Brown from being removed from his hiding place, but fails once again. He has truly had no luck.

On the train, Sam keeps noticing small inconsistencies, details that do not add up. And the most important one is finally revealed: Jess, the doctor, is involved in everything.
