On the road, Hannah wakes up from a nightmare. Bailey is driving and explains that Owen separated from them minutes earlier to go after Grady. The problem is obvious: he is heading straight into danger.
Meanwhile, Grady himself was supposed to show up to meet them, but he never appeared. Because Owen could easily be recognized, Hannah volunteers to go to Grady’s office at the FBI. No one reacts with particular alarm to the fact that he is missing. She agrees to speak with the agent’s superior, Maris, but when she tries to leave, she realizes she has already said too much. The situation changes quickly: everyone begins searching for him, and soon it becomes clear that Grady had been acting without the knowledge of his superiors.
Owen is the only one who still believes in the agent’s innocence. Hannah and Bailey are far less generous. Even so, he decides to go to Grady’s house looking for clues.
While discussing what to do next, Hannah and Bailey are approached by another FBI agent. He claims Grady sent him, which is obviously a lie. The situation quickly turns tense, but they are saved by other agents who had been following them without their knowledge. Those agents were sent by Charlie.

Soon, another revelation arrives: Nicholas is alive. He survived a poisoning attempt and decided to keep his escape a secret. At this point, the number of twists and turns begins to make the story difficult to follow.
Meanwhile, Owen walks straight into a trap. Surrounded by FBI agents who are also searching for Grady, he discovers something worse: his friend’s body. Yes, Grady is dead.
Nicholas then reveals that he warned Owen to protect Hannah and Bailey. By this point, almost nothing surprises anyone anymore. Bailey, being Bailey, confronts her grandfather when he speaks badly about her father. Maintaining any emotional balance under these circumstances is already impressive, but even she finally breaks under the weight of so many revelations.
Owen manages to escape the FBI and tells Hannah he will go after the evidence Grady had gathered.
At the same time, Teddy Campano — who clearly has someone infiltrated inside the FBI — decides that Hannah and Bailey must die.
Hannah is deeply shaken when she learns about Grady’s death. When she finally manages to be alone with Nicholas, she convinces him to lure Frank into a conversation. Pure diplomacy.
Owen continues searching for the evidence Grady collected, but finds only the agent’s badge. Even so, he decides to contact the FBI before discovering that Hannah is with Nicholas.
In a quieter moment, Bailey looks through old photos of her mother and talks with Charlie. This uncle remains one of the most mysterious characters in the story.

Later, Teddy Campano accompanies his father to the funeral but does not enter with Frank. This is when Hannah finally manages to speak with him. Frank is devastated by what happened to Nicholas. When he learns that his friend may have been poisoned, he reacts with fury. He wants to kill whoever did it.
That is when Nicholas tells the truth. The two try to figure out who is responsible. But Hannah is horrified when she hears the next proposal: Nicholas promises to hand Owen over — as long as Bailey remains safe.
And the promise is tested almost immediately.
Owen shows up to meet them.
And he is captured by the men of his father-in-law.
