Danila Kozlovsky is a star in Russia. The 36-year-old actor was trained on stage, having been part of productions of Shakespeare plays, but it seems that so far he was most likely “doomed” to be a Viking. After all, he has starred not only in a movie – Viking, in 2016 – but also in the series, Vikings.

The middle son of three boys, his mother is an actress, and his father is a Professor. It’s been said that the nowadays very fit actor was once a slightly overweight child, as well as a restless one that contributed to frequently changing schools. In fact, he claims his behavior led him to be expelled from several schools before his parents placed him in a naval academy in St. Petersburg. He is thankful, though, claiming it gave him the discipline to take up acting. By the way, besides acting, Danila is a trained dancer and musician, playing the saxophone as well as piano.
Still, in his teens, he started to work on TV, before enchanting critics on stage and getting multiple awards for his performances. It was only a matter of time before he was in the movies and when he starred in the movie Garpastum, he won even more accolades.

In just a few years Danila was a box office star in his native Russia, and, in 2014 he set his foot in Hollywood, being part of the cast of Vampire Academy. In 2017 he joined the cast of Vikings, giving Prince Oleg a scary performance in which even Ivar seemed less of a danger than he really was. Danila is well versed in Rus Viking and Oleg’s story, having played one of Oleg’s successors, Vladimir the Great, Prince of Novgorod in the 2016 Russian movie, Viking.

In 2018, Danila Kozlovsky debuted as a director with the movie Coach. The movie is about a Russian national team football player who ends his career after a professional and very public failure and becomes a coach of a small provincial club in the south of the country.

Danila is married to Russian actress and model, Olga Zueva and they have a baby girl together. His next film, as director and actor, is about Chernobyl, and tells a story about a heroic fireman who worked as one of the plant’s liquidators.
We just hope seeing him more often in western productions in the future!
