Her name in English is perfect: Cruella de Vil. Cruella, obviously, highlights her usual coldness and cruelty. If that weren’t enough, the Frenchized surname, “de Vil” is devil, diabolical, in English. Diabolical Cruella, nice to meet you.

Created in 1956 by writer Dodie Smith, in the book The Hundred One Dalmatians, she went straight to animation. Cruella, initially was “Malvina Cruella”, a delicious and evil name like the original. Then, he moved on to “Cruella Cruel”, equally doubling his evil soul. After the 1996 film, she kept her original name in all translated languages.

The hoarse voice, British accent, insensitivity, and obsession with animal skins remained in all versions of the character. She is considered one of the greatest villains of all time and has entered popular culture even outside the Disney universe. In the original, Cruella was a school friend of the girl, Anita Dearly, and despised her musician husband, Roger. It’s no surprise why Roger writes a (sensational) song in honor of Cruella, highlighting her cruelty.
Rich and unscrupulous, Cruella was initially the wife of a fur trader (in the 1956 version), but later became a fashion designer whose obsession with animal skins makes her extremely dangerous. In the drawing, the cadaverous features are meant to highlight his dark soul and the radical and rapid mood changes can signal a potential for bipolarity. Either way, Cruella goes to great lengths to get what she wants.
A curiosity. Having survived both Dalmatian films, she was supposed to have been The Rescuers villain, but Disney changed their mind and created Medusa, a sort of crazy-driving cousin of Cruella.

In the cinema, Cruella gained her voice and skin with Glenn Close. In the film, she owns the House de Vil brand. Anita is her employee and best designer and Roger is no longer a musician, but a video game designer. Less crazy, but equally obsessive, Glenn Close’s Cruella became an instant reference and an inspirational source for Halloween costumes.

In addition to appearing in series such as Once Upon a Time and The Descendants, she won a film where she is the protagonist. Cruella, which was scheduled to be released in December 2020, can now only be seen in May 2021. This time, it is Oscar winner Emma Stone who plays the young version of the villain. The film will tell the origins of the designer and the reason for her passion for fur. The image of Emma as Cruella was released months ago, causing a furor and raising expectations.

At least the script for the new film will be released in April 2021, in book form. The premise is to find the answer to what she was like before she became Cruella de Vil? They already knew that her name was Estella, she was talented and dreamy, with the ambition of becoming a fashion designer, but life’s obstacles seemed to keep her from her goal. Until the opportunity to create an exclusive piece for a rock star can change everything. Would she be willing to pay the price?
The countdown to the film’s trailer is already in full swing!
