A first for the Royal Family, 50 years ago

Princess Diana is still one of the most famous and influential women in the world, having been on the cover of many magazines countless times. But there’s a record that she didn’t beat and that was of her sister in law, Princess Anne. Anne, who made her 70th birthday last year, was the first royal member to be on the cover of Vogue magazine. Not once, but three times (later, Diana took the lead, with 4 covers). That cover, classic and iconic, completes 50 years this upcoming September.

In 1971, Diana was only 10 years old, so it’s likely she wasn’t paying too much attention to fashion, but Anne was one of the fashion influencers of her time, challenging the crown that was her’s aunt’s, Princess Margaret.

Anne’s style was very clear: bright, strong colors, short skirts and original hats.

Her other Vogue covers, all in the 1970s, were also beautiful.

Later, Diana Spencer also became a “Vogue Favorite”, and even Kate Middleton was granted one cover. Meghan Markle declined making it, choosing to act as an editor instead. However it is, Anne was the first one. The title is only hers.
