When we started And Just Like That in 2021, we re-encountered Carrie, Miranda, and Charlotte a few years after the last film. Happy in their marriages, jobs, and families, or at least, kind of. Irreversible surprises, fights, reunions, and new challenges took our “friends”, now in their fifties, from the comfort they achieved after a lot of effort. And the response wasn’t as unanimous as Sex and The City. Had they lost their charm?

HBO and die-hard fans like me think not. But it certainly requires adjustments. On top of what was officially released, let’s see what awaits us this Thursday, June 22?

Carrie

Carrie and Big were at their best, she was now appearing on a podcast, and life is pretty much decided on a high level for them. But Big suffers a fatal heart attack, leaving not only our favorite writer’s life in check but that of everyone who suffers with her. Carrie struggles to come out of grief, but eventually, she does. In the process, we learn that she and Samantha had a fight, that our favorite character went to London, and in her place, Carrrie has Seema Patel, the realtor who may not have found the perfect apartment to replace the one she had with Big, but was the best company that we could have had. Ultimately, Carrie even tried to meet new men, hooking up with her podcast editor, Franklyn, by surprise. That’s where we said goodbye to her!

After resuming contact with Samantha via Whatsapp, in this new season Carrie will find another person from the past – Aidan – and who knows, get married again? It would be the third attempt on his side to turn her into Carrie Bradshaw-Shaw.

Charlotte

Charlotte has new friends – Lisa and her husband – but the main drama is dealing with her daughter who comes out as non-binary. The news now for the representative of the optimism and romance of the series is that Lily warns that she wants to lose her virginity and of course, the family will end up getting involved in everything. Tip? Brady, Miranda’s son, and Lily’s friend, was seen on the poster next to her. I think there could be a couple from the new generation…

Miranda

Part of the criticism, seen as homophobic, was Miranda’s growth in the series’ plot. The eternal cynic and critic of her friends found herself biting her tongue after having massacred Samantha for getting involved with a woman (in the fifth season of Sex and the City, Maria, played by Sonia Braga) and especially after he spoiled Carrie and Big’s wedding during the marital crisis with Steve. In the movie, he wanted sex, but she didn’t, so he cheated on her and she struggled to forgive him. In And Just Like That it is the opposite, however, Miranda is more cruel with him, claiming her change of life because of her (now ex) husband’s lack of libido. Showrunner Michael Patrick King unsurprisingly defends his new character by claiming that audiences became attached to Steve forgetting that Miranda was never exactly happy with him. Oh, oh, oh… what a typical Game of Thrones response (when the showrunners claimed that people didn’t like the ending because they didn’t want the series to end). The mere detail of not blaming anyone for Miranda’s passion for Che was missing. So simple.

So Miranda left everything to live with Che in California and from what we see in the trailer she’s happy, pero not mucho. Again. And, at some point, she will return to New York. We’ll meet the comedian’s family with actor Tony Danza playing her father and those who followed the recordings also saw that Che goes for a walk with Carrie and even participates in the podcast again, but Miranda – unfortunately – maintains her role of the unhappy one.

The new “friends”, like Nya, the Human Rights professor who became friends with Miranda and who also had her marriage in crisis, will be back, but besides Nya rediscovering single life alongside Seema and Carrie, no they gave a lot to fish what they will live.

We will have stellar appearances like Sam Smith (will it be a new romance for Anthony?) and Kim Cattrall who returns as Samantha for a single scene, without acting with the rest of the cast. Samantha will only appear in the last scene, according to what was leaked, so she will not have relevant participation.

Anyway, in less than 48 hours we will find out if And Just Like That will ‘recover’ the lost space. For me, it’s a sure bet that yes.
