If there’s something that the public likes to play at being, it’s Casting Director. For example, the world sport of who will be the next 007 lasts years until the announcement is made. In fact, we still don’t know who the next James Bond will be and we always imagine that the suspense will end soon, but it’s been three years since Daniel Craig said goodbye to the role… That’s a topic for another post.
As I anticipated in the previous post, immediately after the announcement that HBO is already secretly working on adapting Aegon’s Conquest to follow House of the Dragon, the Internet started asking: who will play Aegon I? Who will play Visenya? Who will play Rhaenys?

The all-time favorites have already been mentioned
At this moment, no one takes into account the age of the characters and re-lists who they would like to see in the Game of Thrones universe with some names so obvious that, if one day they actually join the cast, I think social networks will fall apart.
We know that for Aegon, the first name shouted was Henry Cavill, although, at the age of 40, it may no longer be possible to interpret it. For Visenya, the clear favorite is our eternal Lagherta, Kathryn Winnick, who in Vikings proved that she was a perfect potential Targaryen. And for Rhaenys, fans dream of Anya Taylor-Joy, who shone in The Queen’s Gambit and Peaky Blinders before hitting theaters.
In her late 30s, Anya could even be among the front-runners for Aegon’s favorite princess, young Rhaenys, but depending on the youth of the cast, could she even be on Visenya’s list?
Targaryens make stars
It’s always good to try to guess. Here is the list of actors that fans are considering for the roles in Aegon’s Conquest, some of them were in the speculation of who will play Cregan Stark in House of the Dragon, before finalizing with actor Tom Taylor.
Playing a Targaryen can be career-defining for rising actors. Emilia Clarke debuted as Daenerys Targaryen in Game of Thrones and today has no less than four franchises in her filmography: GOT, Star Wars, Terminator, and Marvel.
Matt Smith was one of the fans most wanted as Daemon Targaryen and today he is the star of House of the Dragon. Ewan Mitchell had a supporting role in The Last Kingdom and is now a fan favorite as Aemond Targaryen. The potential for new revelations is undeniable.

So, shall we vote for our favorites?
For Aegon I Targaryen, it’s easy to think of yes, Henry Cavill. But he shares the podium with someone the public dreams of as the conqueror: Charlie Hunnam.
If we continue in this age group, which today is almost exclusive for them, I follow my dear Travis Fimmell, who is always amazing at what he does.

The actors who played Ragnar’s sons in Vikings also make the list interesting, with Alexander Ludwig already appearing among those mentioned in Twitter. Jordan Patrick-Smith is another name that fits in the same field, Vikings: Valhalla, I bet, and support Leo Suter.

The Targaryen women
How wonderful, there are two stunning princesses to join the hall of unforgettable Targaryens.
Visenya and Rhaenys are very different warriors, both with fascinating stories. For the oldest, Visenya rode the dragon Vaghar, today the largest and most feared in House of the Dragons, and wielded the sword Dark Sister, today used by Daemon Targaryen. Fiery, mysterious, and complex, it’s a great role for any actress.
As she is the most mature of the three, actresses over 30 are in the running. Kathryn Winnick leads popular favoritism because she is as unforgettable as Lagherta in Vikings. This also brings her very close to what she once did, but we can dream, right?
Vanessa Kirby, who was Princess Margaret in The Crown and is in Mission: Impossible, is another mentioned. So I would like to take the opportunity to throw Rebecca Ferguson into the mix, another who would be sensational in the role.

Rhaenys, Aegon’s favorite and whose tragic fate can bring tears to our eyes, also has her favorites but is even more undefined.
Anya Taylor-Joy is the most mentioned, but Florence Pugh is right next to her. Even Emma Corrin made the list!

The speculation doesn’t stop here. What’s your guess?
