Filming for the third (and penultimate) season of House of the Dragon begins in four weeks and the announcement of James Norton joining the cast is something to be celebrated, perhaps signaling how the narrative may be heading in the green camp. Yes, the prestigious British actor, who is in House Guinness and leads the eternal candidates for 007, is an actor of talent and charisma, even if it is just a cameo, he will bring gravitas to the team that opposes Rhaenyra Targaryen (Emma D’Arcy) in the role of Ormund Hightower.

Obviously, as Alicent’s (Olivia Cooke) cousin and son of Otto’s (Rhys Iphans) older brother, Ormund supports the cause of Aegon II (Tom Glynn-Carney). He is the son and successor of the ambitious Lord Hobert Hightower (Steffan Rhodri), and after his father’s death, he took his cousin Daeron Targaryen as his ward, being mentioned by name a few times in season 2. In fact, what’s more, we ended the last episode with his forces marching out of Oldtown with Daeron flying over the soldiers.

In battles: an important name

Norton’s presence in the cast reinforces both the political and battle plots because Ormund will be almost defeated in the Battle of Honeywine until he is saved by his squire, Prince Daeron, flying with Tessarion and securing an important victory for the greens. Certainly one of the most anticipated moments of the season.

Ormund will have several victories until he reaches Tumbleton where he will face the Starks’ force. We’ll stop here so as not to reveal (yet) more than that.

In his personal life, the Hightower lineage is guaranteed

Ormund was married and had four children: three sons – Lyonel, Martyn, and Garmund – and a daughter, Bethany. Something that should certainly be changed is the age of his second wife. In the book, the widower remarries Samantha Tarly, only two years older than his own son Lyonel. Their marriage became strained after the young woman’s father declared himself in favor of Rhaenyra and against the Hightowers. There are also rumors that Samantha was the lover of her stepson, Lyonel. Gossip, apparently not.

After Ormund’s death, Lyonel will try to marry his widowed stepmother, but the union will be prevented because it is considered a form of incest. The Hightower house will continue until the times of Game of Thrones, but no longer so close to power.

For now, we will closely follow the participation of James Norton, who certainly brings prestige to House of the Dragon.
