Ivar and Hivtserk Lothbrok had indeed an intertwined fate. In the end, their love and hate relationship was one of the most enduring of the series, both standing together through the end. Their complicated relationship was perfectly captured by Danish actors Alex Høgh Andersen and Marco Ilsø.

Alex and Marco knew each other even before Vikings, having worked together in a short film. Once they both were hired, they became roomates in Dublin and their chemistry was totally transferred to the screen as well. They did seem to be brothers.
Cleverly, HBO Nordic, put both together to watch the final episode in a live with the fans. As expected, it was fun.

Here are some highlights (SPOILER ALERT)
- Their emotional farewell was their idea, accepted by Michael Hirst. The final lines were written by themselves straight from the heart. “We needed a bit of brotherly love”, they said.
- On that note, the scene in which Ivar and Hivtserk reunited in the first part of Season 6 was also written by the actors. “Brotherly love”, they said again
- Marco said that although he was happy that Ivar was killed by a random soldier he wished Hivtserk had that final blow as he’s promised for so long. “Did you talk about it with Michael [Hirst]?”, Alex asked. “No”, Marco admitted. We’re left to wonder if he did if things would have been different. Alex asked for Ivar’s dismissal not being as grand as the others and got his version.
- There was a quick reunion between Lothbrok brothers when Jordan Patrick Smith sent a few questions himself
- Alex and Marco confessed they kept their armlings as souvenirs. Alex, who was at his parent’s, showed other souvenirs as well.

In the end, the actors stayed longer than an hour with the fans. It was fun and bittersweet. They both said they are not engaged in any other new production. Hopefully that changes soon!
