Who is Gina Gray in Peaky Blinders, really? (theory with spoiler)

Gina Gray has yet to show us what she is capable of in Peaky Blinders. Anya Taylor-Joy’s character could possibly be Tommy Shelby’s major antagonist in the final season. She is, without a question, shady.

She speaks little and observes a lot. Gina came to the Peaky Blinders’ universe as Mrs. Michael Gray. She greatly influences him, even putting him against his family. Particularly, Gina clearly nurtures a grudge against Tommy Shelby. It’s impossible to alude a joke about Michael being merely a pawn, or rather a Queen’s gambit in a dangerous and violent chess game.

Everything about Gina is suspicious. Starting with how she met and fell for Michael, while he was in the US. Their marriage was as quick as their romance, and she’s the one calling all the shots in the relationship. Tommy noticed her agenda as well as Polly’s, but Michael is bewitched,

What do we actually know about Gina? Apparent Italian heritage, a family connected with criminal business, and connections with the Italian Mafia of the 1920s, meaning powerful and feared Al Capone…
It isn’t as clear to Michael as it is to us the list of coincidences that led to Ginabecominge part of the Shelbys. Even Polly Gray is annoyed with her daughter-in-law, a sort of Meghan Markle who, as an American, is not aligned with old traditions. Gina is pregnant and determined to go back to New York with Michael, their baby, and theShelbys’s business. And she will be heard.

Michael Gray has always had a duplicity in him. Tommy is not yet at peace with him after his betrayal in Season 5, and Gina isn’t helping to make amends. It’s Michael who often clouds Polly’s judgement as well. There is little hope that he isn’t an antagonist to his own family in the final season.

For me, it is very clear that Gina is not only not who she claims to be but also has a plan in motion against the Shelbys. It is personal. And it’s against Tommy.

We have no idea of Gina’s origins and connections. She pretends to know less than what she actually does, and she made a mistake, not noticed by Michael, revealing she knew more about Oswald Mosley than her own husband. Michael calls him a “Baron”, and she corrects him with “Baronet”. As far as anyone could say, she’s never been to England before and never met “royalty”. And yet she was well informed. Isn’t that a huge hint? If it wasn’t enough, she exchanged strange, long looks with Mosley. Michael missed the whole thing.

Polly seems to suspect something, but it comes across as jealousy. Gina claims to be pregnant, but it’s her word against anyone’s question. I, for one, don’t buy it.

As far as we know, Polly is upset with Michael’s attempt to take over the family business aggressively. But he’s her only living son. We last saw her unaware that her fiancé diedinn the frustrated coup against Mosley. She will not be happy about it. With anyone.

There is a theory that Gina is Mosley’s lover and the one who betrayed Tommy. True, we saw her last, not the least worried about the Peaky Blinders’ threats. On the contrary, again manipulating her husband, she says “we are forced with the second option”, not explaining to us which were the real options on the table. The second option didn’t sound very good…

Peaky Blinders is ongoing. My bet is that no one would have the star of the moment – Anya Taylor-Joy – in a role that isn’t significant. There’s much more to learn about Gina. I think she is an FBI agent infiltrated, or she is indeed a criminal connected to Oswald Mosley. In any case, we should see way more of her in season 6. Can’t wait.
