MAX doesn’t want risks with Game of Thrones

If there is anything more than clear at this point, MAX will not bet on content from the Game of Thrones franchise outside the pages of George R. R. Martin. The stain of the controversy of the most rejected final in history every day leaves more of its victims in the path.

After giving up on Snow, which would continue GOT at least until Jon Snow (Kit Harington) was better defined, recording and canceling Bloodmoon, with Naomi Watts, now it’s the spin of 10,000 ships that seem to have been stopped before it even existed. The project announced in 2017 still doesn’t even dream of starting production.

Written by the award-winning and prestigious Brian Helgeland, the series was one that fans celebrated most when it was announced because it would address the adventures of Nymeria Targaryen at sea and in Dorne, something that even House of the Dragon mentioned. Just as Kit commented that they hadn’t found a story worth telling, 10,000 ships seemed to have run into the same dilemma. “It [the script] turned out great, but I think they felt the period of my show was too far removed from the pillars of the original,” Brian Helgeland said in an interview. “That’s why it hasn’t been collected yet, but nothing dies. My script was based on Queen Nymeria and this little blurb about her that was in an encyclopedia of Westeros,” he explained.

Therefore, if it is not a finished story and has already been tested by the writer, there is a chance that it will be blocked at the door. “I met with George R.R. Martin to present the idea to him, which he approved. Unfortunately, I didn’t work closely with him anymore, but I would have if the program had been revived,” Brian said.

As the screenwriter explained to Variety, in his vision, Nymeria would be like Moses. “Their country is ruined and their people are forced to live on the water, which is why the show was called ‘Ten Thousand Ships’. They end up having to leave and find a new home, like the Israelites who left Egypt. She’s leading all these people, trying to keep everyone together, but things are always in danger of falling apart as they travel through a fictional version of the Mediterranean, looking for a new home to settle down in,” he said. Helgeland also sees Nymeria as a kind of Odysseus, but none of this convinced the platform.

In contrast to these projects, chapters with a beginning, middle, and end are moving forward. The second season of House of the Dragon premieres in just under 2 months and A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight is about to start recording. Both have a beginning, middle, and end written by Martin.

Just like Snow, postponement is not a cancellation. Considering everyone likes Nymeria’s story. Does it still work?
