Who is Greg Hunt in The White Lotus? His secrets will be revealed

Ever since he seemed like an inconsequential supporting character in the first season of The White Lotus, I have been suspecting the intentions and information about who Greg Hunt (Jon Gries) is. He appeared as the romantic interest of Tanya McQuoid (Jennifer Coolidge), who has terminal cancer, but soon revealed himself – in the second season – to be a dangerous and manipulative man.

His trajectory throughout the seasons reveals a complex man, whose search for wealth and status leads him to morally questionable actions. And Belinda (Natasha Hothwell) is the one who can unmask him, uniting (finally!) all the plots of the previous seasons, something that Interpol should have done, but slept on. From what we see in the trailer for episode 4, we will finally know who Greg Hunt is, who now introduces himself as “Gary”.

As mentioned, Greg is initially introduced as a guest at the White Lotus resort in Hawaii. There, he meets Tanya McQuoid and later marries her. Their relationship is marked by conflicts, culminating in Greg’s plot, in collaboration with Quentin (Tom Holland), to murder Tanya and inherit her fortune.

All of this is discovered by us when Greg and Tanya travel to the White Lotus resort in Sicily. Here, “cured” of the cancer that he claimed was terminal, we see that there is tension in the marriage, which increases with Greg showing impatience and disinterest in his wife. To make matters worse, he becomes irritated by the presence of Portia, Tanya’s assistant. Eventually, Tanya dies, but after discovering that her husband is not who he seems to be.

We never hear exactly what the plan is and how it will be executed, but Portia is warned that “these are dangerous people,” and Greg is implicated in the crime, although his direct participation is not explicitly confirmed in the narrative.

Surprisingly, in the third season, Greg reappears at the White Lotus resort in Thailand, where he has been living for a year under the name “Gary” and is now accompanied by Chloe, with whom he maintains a cold relationship. Belinda recognizes Greg as Tanya’s widower, but he denies any connection to Tanya, despite evidence to the contrary. So what does she do? Lesson one for modern times: research who Greg Hunt is. Are you ready for the surprise?

From the images we see in the trailer, Greg is an employee of a federal agency in the United States. That’s right, he was part of a government structure that was not fully defined, but he had a connection with an agency linked to the security and regulatory sector, possibly linked to federal agencies such as the Bureau of Land Management (BLM), an agency responsible for the management of public lands and natural resources. Now it gets even more interesting: is this really true? What happened for his destiny to take a dark and unexpected turn when his actions transformed him from a respectable employee into a wanted fugitive?

Belinda’s surprise, we see, is that she didn’t know about Tanya’s death (I find it a bit complicated that no one in Hawaii would comment on a crime near the Italian unit). In other words, Belinda will be our representative as detective on screen. I like that.

Greg is living a luxurious life in Thailand, as we see on the yacht he keeps anchored near the White Lotus. In the trailer, “Gary” talking to Tim Ratliff reacts when the businessman says that those who live in Thailand are only there because they are hiding from a crime. The question is: What does Greg want by hanging around the hotel and taking American guests on trips to the sea?

What we can say is that Greg Hunt is obsessed with wealth and social status and will go to extreme lengths, including the murder of his wife, to achieve his goal. His continued presence at the White Lotus resorts indicates a persistent desire for luxury and prestige, even after the traumatic events that marked his personal life. And Jon Gries communicates the character’s dark side very well, which makes us fear – a lot – for the lives of the resort’s current guests.

Will we have confirmation of his connection to Quentin? How did he go from being a public servant to a con artist and murderer? What is Greg’s, I mean, Gary’s, and Chloe’s real plan? I’m curious to find out more clues.
