Kristen Bell, Adam Brody, and Leighton Meester Reunite for Nobody Wants This Season 2

The most unexpected — and oddly perfect — couple on Netflix is back. Nobody Wants This, the offbeat romantic comedy that turned skepticism into success, returns on October 23, and this time it’s louder, sharper, and even more heartfelt.

Created by Erin Foster, the show captured audiences with its deceptively simple premise: Joanne (Kristen Bell), an outspoken agnostic podcaster, falls for Noah (Adam Brody), a kind-hearted rabbi. The chemistry was undeniable, and the writing — funny, self-aware, and grounded in emotional truth — made the first season one of Netflix’s biggest surprises.

Now, Season 2 dives into the “what happens next” part of the story. “It’s the moment when a relationship is tested by real life,” Foster told Tudum. “Friends, routines, family dinners, birthdays — and figuring out what each person really wants for the future.”

When Fiction Mirrors Real Life

Part of the show’s charm comes from the fact that it’s loosely based on Foster’s own love story — she, too, fell for a Jewish man and eventually converted. That lived-in quality gives Nobody Wants This its bite and its warmth.

Behind the scenes, the show also gets an upgrade: Girls veterans Jenni Konner and Bruce Eric Kaplan join as showrunners, alongside Nora Silver, ensuring that the balance between emotional honesty and comedic precision stays intact.

Enter Leighton Meester

For fans of The O.C. and Gossip Girl, the casting twist is pure meta delight: Leighton Meester — Brody’s real-life wife — joins the series as Abby, Joanne’s childhood nemesis turned Instagram momfluencer.

“It was such a thrill to write a role for Leighton and put her and Adam in a scene together,” said Foster, who even rewrote parts of the script to give them extra screen time. “It was too good to resist.”

The second season also welcomes Miles Fowler (Bottoms), Alex Karpovsky (Girls), Arian Moayed (Succession), plus guest turns from Seth Rogen and Kate Berlant, whose roles remain under wraps for now.

A Soundtrack Worthy of Its Own Series

If the first season used music as emotional punctuation — think Dua Lipa, Olivia Rodrigo, and Rihanna — Season 2 turns it into a full-blown event.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the official soundtrack features nineteen new recordings spanning pop, folk, and country, led by Selena Gomez, Kacey Musgraves, Chris Stapleton, Finneas, Portugal. The Man, Alessia Cara, Giveon, and Teddy Swims, among others.

The album was produced by Simon Tikhman, co-founder of The Core Entertainment — and Erin Foster’s husband — in partnership with Interscope Records. “I wanted the music to reflect the same mix of honesty, humor, and heart that Erin brings to the series,” Tikhman said. “It’s deeply personal — in more ways than one.”

Highlights include Gomez’s “In the Dark,” Musgraves’ “If the World Burns Down,” Stapleton’s “Heart Letting Go,” Finneas’ “Palomino,” and Giveon’s “Dancing in the Smoke.” The full album drops alongside the series.

Love, Faith, and Chaos

Season 2 picks up just days after the finale, with Joanne and Noah deciding — tentatively — to choose each other despite the odds. He’s still navigating his role within his temple; she’s still figuring out how much she’s willing to change for love.

“It’s about knowing when compromise becomes self-erasure,” Brody said. “Love is beautiful, but living with someone is the real test.”

The Return

Nobody Wants This was never meant to be the obvious kind of romance — it’s about the messy parts, the contradictions, and the quiet comedy of learning to stay.
With its new cast, its dreamlike soundtrack, and its creator’s unmistakable wit, Season 2 looks ready to prove once again that the title is a lie: everybody wants this.
