The success of Furious was not merely an impression created by social media. According to figures released by Disney, the crime drama starring Emmy Rossum has accumulated 43 million hours watched since its July 27 premiere. That translates into approximately 6.2 million views in just over five weeks.
The most interesting figure, however, is not the total. On its first day of availability, the finale attracted an audience 90% larger than the premiere had during the same period. In other words, Furious did not arrive with an enormous amount of attention only to disappear shortly afterward. It followed the opposite path, growing throughout the season thanks to recommendations from viewers who started watching and stayed until the end.

Created by Elizabeth Meriwether, the series follows an FBI agent played by Emmy Rossum as she investigates a female serial killer portrayed by Lola Petticrew. The criminal mystery, however, was only the starting point for a story far more interested in the women involved in the case, their traumas, and the consequences left behind by violence.
The increase in viewership also helps explain why the renewal for a second season was announced so quickly. The next episodes are expected to follow Alice and her boss, Nora, played by the excellent Quincy Tyler Bernstine, as they confront a new case within C20, the unit dedicated to investigating sex crimes.
Anyone who watched the first season knows this may be the best possible decision. With her alcoholism, contradictions, and a complexity that developed quietly across the episodes, Nora ended the season as one of the show’s most interesting characters. Furious began by promising the pursuit of a killer. It ended by discovering that it had many more stories to tell.
