After having agreed to adapt the “Biography of the Queens” with the series The White Queen, The White Princess and The Spanish Princess, Starz has announced that it is leaving the English court to embark on the French with The Serpent Queen.
The series will tell the story of Catherine de Medici, who ruled (indirectly) France for 30 years in a bloody period, marked by religious persecution, civil war, plots and assassinations. Catarina entered history as an evil, mysterious woman responsible for thousands of deaths. However, just as The White Queen altered the narrative of Richard III‘s story, The Serpent Queen promises to do the same for Catarina. The series will build on Leonie Frieda‘s lauded biography. As it is still early in production, there is no cast or air date yet, but it shouldn’t air before 2022.
The sequel to the Queens series was a hit by Starz that aired the last season of The Spanish Princess during the pandemic. It has everything to work out again.
