Beth Dillon will play Siouxsie Sioux in Pistol

I’m a big fan of Siouxsie Sioux and Siouxsie and the Banshees. So, even though she might be not much more than a cameo in the Pistol series, I’m looking forward to seeing her and the actress Beth Dillon is the one who will bring this icon of the punk movement to life.

The series, which will air in Brazil on the Starplus platform, is scheduled to premiere at the end of May. The entire cast looks eerily alike, so while we haven’t seen Beth dressed up as Siouxsie yet, it’s already possible to use your imagination. The cast became super friendly and Beth has been seen hanging out with actress Maisie Williams, who will play Siouxsie’s friend, Jordan Mooney. Jordan passed away this week and received tributes from the production and the actress.

The series directed by Danny Boyle is an adaptation of the book by guitarist Steve JonesLonely Boy: Tales From a Sex Pistol, and recounts how young people with no musical education changed the world’s cultural scene.

Siouxsie plays an important role in the story. In addition to being friends with Sid Vicious, who was the drummer for her band, Siouxsie and the Banshees, as well as being part of Bromley Contingent, it was in her defense that the band’s interview Sex Pistols shocked England. It all started when the show’s host made a double-meaning comment about Siouxsie on air – saying he would “get to know her “better” after they went off the air”, which led guitarist Steve Jones to fire a swearing machine gun in defense of his friend. Siouxsie became known throughout the country from that event.

Siouxsie Sioux was the stage name of Susan Janet Ballion, considered to be the inventor of the Gothic look and music. One of the first fans of the Sex Pistols, she saw them live at a show, with her then-boyfriend Steve Severin, and the two began to follow the band at every concert, becoming friends with the musicians. The group became known as Bromley Contingent. Malcolm McClaren, who was taking care of the Pistols, was the one who launched Siouxsie and the Banshees, one of the rare bands with a female leader and vocalist. With an original look, he soon stood out and started to open the Sex Pistols shows.

As mentioned, Siouxsie was very close to Sid Vicious and in interviews after his death, she never spared blaming Nancy Spougen for his untimely death (even though he is the prime suspect in Nancy’s murder). Siouxsie’s influence on music and fashion is still felt today and her look and makeup are one of the symbols of the 1980s.

The singer is still active and in 2015, agreed to write an original composition to end the series HannibalLove Crime, her first single in eight years. She lives near Toulouse, France, with her cats.

Beth Dillon participated in the series Four Weddings and a Funeral and is still building her career. Certainly appearing as Siouxsie will bring out the spotlight.
