Accused of Killing His Parents, Nick Reiner Battles Over Family Inheritance

One of Hollywood’s most disturbing cases has taken another almost unimaginable turn. While awaiting trial on charges that he murdered his parents, Rob and Michele Reiner, Nick Reiner is now attempting to gain access to the wealth left behind by the very couple whose deaths he is accused of causing.

According to documents obtained by TMZ, Nick has filed a petition seeking money that he says should have automatically been distributed to him when he turned 30. The funds are part of a trust established in 1992 by Rob and Michele Reiner for the benefit of their three children, Nick, Jake, and Romy.

According to the filing, Nick intended to use the money to retain attorney Alan Jackson for his defense in the criminal case. He claims that his siblings initially agreed to the arrangement, but that the trustee refused to release the funds, leading Jackson to withdraw from the case. Currently in jail, Nick says he has no other source of income to cover legal fees or even basic living expenses.

The contradiction is difficult to ignore and adds another dramatic layer to a crime that had already shocked Hollywood. The man accused of killing his own parents is now seeking financial support from an inheritance they arranged during their lifetime.

Nick Reiner faces two counts of first-degree murder in connection with the December stabbing deaths of Rob and Michele Reiner. He has pleaded not guilty. A preliminary hearing held in April was postponed until September as authorities continue to await key evidence needed for the case.

In February, it emerged that Jake and Romy Reiner had no plans to pay for a private attorney for their brother following Alan Jackson’s departure from the defense team. In April, Jake shared an emotional message about the devastating impact of the tragedy, lamenting that his parents will not be present for major milestones in his life, including his wedding, the possibility of future grandchildren, and the next chapter of his career.

Romy has remained silent publicly. According to Jake, she will speak about the tragedy “in her own way and in her own time.”

More than a financial dispute, the petition underscores the tragic dimensions of a case that continues to provoke disbelief. In a twist worthy of a dark screenplay, the inheritance Rob and Michele Reiner built during their lives has now become part of the legal battle involving the son accused of taking their lives.
