If Callum Turner Is Bond, Will Dua Lipa Sing the Next 007 Theme?

Callum Turner has yet to be announced as James Bond, but his presence among the reported contenders for the final screen tests already invites another bet: if he lands the role, will Dua Lipa sing the franchise’s next theme? I confess that, while I am still trying to picture him as 007, I can quite easily imagine her voice over the credits.

Turner is among the names linked to the casting process, alongside Jack Lowden and Josh O’Connor. There is no official confirmation of who will get the role, much less who will perform the song. But the possibility of bringing the couple together on the same project practically writes its own publicity campaign. Him on screen, her on the soundtrack. The premiere, the interviews, the red carpet. I imagine the marketing team would have little trouble working with that material.

The most interesting detail, however, is that the connection between Dua Lipa and James Bond began long before her relationship with Turner.

A Longstanding Ambition

Back in 2018, the singer told British GQ that she would love to perform a Bond theme. At the time, her name was circulating as a possibility for the film that would become No Time to Die. Speculation intensified after Years & Years’ Mikey Goldsworthy said in an interview that he had heard the song would be hers. That is not what happened.

The song ultimately went to Billie Eilish and Finneas, who won the Oscar for “No Time to Die.” Dua, then, was already part of this conversation years before Callum entered the race for the tuxedo. Her interest has a history of its own.

That chronology matters because it would be reductive to present any eventual selection as a consequence of her marriage. The relationship makes the possibility more eye-catching, of course. But Dua Lipa has the career, audience and musical identity to be considered regardless of who plays Bond.

Does Her Voice Suit 007?

For me, it does. Dua has a lower register that could work beautifully with the sensuality and mystery associated with the franchise. There is a confidence in her delivery that makes it easy to imagine something more suggestive, with room for an orchestra and slowly building tension.

That does not mean she would need to abandon the dance-pop that helped define her career. One of the pleasures of Bond themes is watching each artist find a place within such a recognizable tradition. Shirley Bassey, Paul McCartney, Duran Duran, Tina Turner, Madonna and Adele brought very different personalities. The meeting of the performer’s signature style and the film’s world is part of the anticipation.

With Dua, I would like to hear what that voice could do with a composition that explored ambiguity. Charm, desire and a sense of danger. I can imagine it effortlessly.

The challenge would be finding the song. Having a global star guarantees initial attention; standing comparison with decades of Bond music requires something more.

The Weight of Singing for James Bond

The musical choice also helps introduce each film’s identity. Before the story moves forward, the song over the credits can suggest seduction, loss, menace or vulnerability. It helps shape that particular Bond.

During Daniel Craig’s tenure, that importance received a particularly striking run of recognition: “Skyfall,” “Writing’s on the Wall” and “No Time to Die” all won the Oscar for original song. That is a considerable legacy for whoever comes next.

The question, therefore, goes beyond whether Dua Lipa has the voice or popularity for the job. She does. What we still do not know is the next film’s tone and which song would make sense within it. A new leading actor also offers an opportunity to reconsider the relationship between the character, his era, and the audience.

A Couple Leading the Launch?

Rumors about a possible combination of Turner as Bond and Dua on the soundtrack have already circulated in the press, but they remain rumors. No announcement allows us to treat the two jobs as a done deal—and hiring one would not confirm the other.

As a possibility, though, it is irresistible. The franchise would gain another story to accompany its reinvention, and the two would participate in the same cultural event through different avenues.

I am still uncertain about Callum Turner as James Bond. When it comes to Dua Lipa singing the theme, I am more easily persuaded. And if the role goes to Lowden, O’Connor or another candidate, my musical curiosity remains exactly the same.

She wanted to sing for Bond before falling in love with a potential 007. It would be fun if those paths came together now.
