40 years without Grace Kelly

When she was one of the biggest stars in Hollywood, with an Oscar for Best Actress and every director vying for her attention, Grace Kelly turned her back on the movies and became a princess. A real one.

Grace was one of the most famous in the world when a report on Prince Rainier III, about Monaco, agreed to participate.

That chance meeting changed the actress’s life forever. And it gave us one of the most copied and beautiful wedding dresses of all time.

Grace, born into a wealthy Philadelphia family and as a child, inspired by her uncle who was a playwright, began to dream of the stage. Everyone in her family was athletic, but she dreamed of books, fairy tales, and fashion. Her undeniable beauty helped her to be noticed very fast, arriving in California at a young age.

In her second film, High Noon, opposite Gary Cooper, she became a star and in just two other years, at just 25, she won the Oscar for Best Actress, for The Country Girl, beating Judy Garland in A Star is Born. Then, as Alfred Hitchcock‘s favorite actress, she starred in classic thrillers: Dial M for Murder, Rear Window and To Catch a Thief. Alongside Audrey Hepburn, she was the most respected and sought-after actress on the market. A trip to France changed everything.

At the age of 26, Grace had broken off an engagement with designer Oleg Cassini and according to biographers, she was already worried about “being old”. Remembering that it was a time when marriage and children were statuses, she didn’t think twice when she fell in love with Prince Rainier III. This fairy tale, many years before Princess Diana and Meghan Markle, fueled the imagination of romantic women across the world for many decades. His last big-screen role was in High Society in 1956.

From there, the Princess formed a family, raised three children and follows a fashion icon. However, on September 14, 1982, at just 52 years old, Grace Kelly died as a result of a car accident never really explained. On the 13th, she was driving a Rover with her daughter, Stephanie, when she had a stroke and lost control of the car. They were on a winding road, fell off the slope, and caught fire. Both princesses were rushed to Monaco Hospital. Grace suffered fractures to a rib and to her right femur and collarbone and died the next day. Stephanie survived.

At the time, the commotion was global. Grace Kelly is considered one of the movie legends and at 52, she still looked like she still had a long life ahead of her. His son Prince Albert paid tribute today.

“Forty years later, it still captures people’s imaginations,” he said. “She managed to capture the imagination and attention of several younger generations and few did. And it’s not her beauty or the fashion icon that she was that draws people in, but her warmth, her heart, and the humanity that only people saw in her that they remember.”

Here is my tribute to the star.
