It will be curious to see a showrunner who is known for her long and intricate dialogues like Amy Sherman-Palladino will deal with a universe where you don’t open your mouth like ballet. On the other hand, having learned to dance herself when she was young, that’s her next project now that The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel ended its fifth season. Billed as Étoile (Star), the eight-episode series will show the backstage of two ballet companies – one French and one American – when, in an ambitious business move, they exchange their most talented stars.
The premise suggests we’ll see more of the backstage politics and shenanigans than the performances, but knowing the Palladinos, we’ll see a lot of dancing too! I already liked it even before I saw any scene. Apparently, the people at Amazon Prime Video do too, because we already know that we will have two seasons, something unprecedented for the platform and which signals confidence in the award-winning screenwriter. And fans know of Amy’s passion for ballet, so much so that she is behind ABC’s Family Bunheads series – considered one of the best on dance – and even Gilmore Girls included a ballet teacher character.

In the cast are two actors who stole the scene in The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, Luke Kirby, who plays Lenny Bruce, and Gideon Glick, who is the magician Alfie. Alongside them will come Camille Cottin, Simon Callow, Lou de Laâge, and David Alvarez.
There is still no release date, but we will be watching in 2024!
